My
BodyScape photographs explore limitations of the body and its surroundings by contrasting these elements with the language we utilize whilst navigating the complexities of existence. The marriage of agony and isolation is emphasized in part by disrupting the traditional language associated with affliction. Branded by expressions, an anonymous nude figure is stranded in the landscape. A Spartan image bearing a subjugated word contrasted against a solitary landscape. By interposing struggle and symmetry, the viewer senses a measure of hope despite the desperation. The work is an attempt to understand and make sense of life’s perils and wonders. What began as my commentary on dealing with my own physical ailment has metamorphosed into a universal exploration of how we ultimately all come together through the subtexts in which we live. Regardless of the history of one’s life, viewers pull from their own experiences in order to intimately relate to the landscapes and words. Each photograph, with its multilayered meaning, evokes a multitude of emotions and experiences thus leaving the work open-ended enough for a multitude of viewers to have vastly different experiences all from one piece. Each photograph is printed as an archival C-print, in limited editions of nine.
